Belgium 24- In the footsteps of what our neighbor France is doing, the supermarket war in Belgium is still raging in full swing. Last week, several of them announced discounts on hundreds of products.
However, according to the Flemish newspaper Die Teide, there is something fishy about that process. A Daltix survey found that along with this price drop, supermarkets also tripled the price of items.
The data company Daltix, partly owned by Colruyt, constantly tracks and compares prices in all major supermarket chains in our country.
Between March 6th and May 1st, 2033 products are much cheaper at Carrefour. And no other supermarket has discounted so many brands. However, Carrefour simultaneously raised the price of 5,519 items, setting another record!!.

- Delhaize, on the other hand, reduced the price of 1,672 products, but increased the price of 4,325 products.
- And at Albert Heijn, the 767 was sold cheaper, while the 2812 became more expensive.
- In Colruyt’s stores, it adjusts its prices according to the competition: 1,646 products have seen a price drop, while 4,579 have gone up.
Because of the Daltix methodology, it was difficult for Aldi and Lidl to draw detailed conclusions. However, the data firm found that more products were subject to higher prices during this period.
