
New Zealand police announced yesterday the discovery of possible human remains in the Pike River mine, after… Nearly 13 years of explosions have killed 29 men.
It triggered a series of explosions on November 19, 2010, in an underground mine near the town of Greymouth. In the west coast area of the South Island of the country, 29 men were killed. Their bodies were never recovered.
Police and experts drilled holes in the coal mine as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the disaster.
Inspector Darrell Sweeney said the photos were taken from a well near where he was known to be Men working on it at the time of the explosion revealed what were likely human remains.
Sweeney said two forensic pathologists viewed the photos and could not definitively say whether They had seen human remains.
--Police spoke to the families of the three men who were believed to be building a wall in the area.
He said, “We realize that this is a very difficult process for the families of the 29 men who were killed at Paik River».
“Our hearts go out to the families as they receive this news.”
He explained that three more holes will be drilled at the site in the coming weeks, to complete the police investigation into the mine .
