Today, Saturday, the finance ministers of the G7 countries agreed to increase their commitment to the budget and economic support for Ukraine during the current year and early next year by $44 billion.
“We call for an immediate end to the illegal Russian war against Ukraine, which would remove one of the biggest doubts about the future of the global economy,” the ministers said in a joint statement carried by the Ukrainian news agency (Ukinform).
According to the statement, “the finance ministers of the G7 countries affirmed their commitment to the budget and economic support for Ukraine for 2023 and early 2024 to $44 billion, which enabled the approval of the International Monetary Fund’s program to support Ukraine at a value of $15.6 billion over 4 years.”
The ministers stressed the need to maintain flexibility in their countries’ macroeconomic policy amid growing uncertainty about the global economic outlook.
The statement added that the G7 finance ministers and central bank governors from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan coordinated their positions on a wide range of issues ranging from problems in the banking sector to debt restructuring.
