The price of a gram of 21 carat gold fell by about 300 pounds during the current month of May, due to the decline in demand for gold in Egypt, and with the government’s decisions to allow Egyptian citizens returning from abroad to enter gold quantities without customs fees.

Today, Saturday, May 13, 2023, the price of 21 carat gold fell in Egypt to 2410 pounds, compared to 2700 pounds on April 28.
The price of a gram of 18 karat gold recorded about 2066 pounds, compared to the price of 2314 late last month, and the price of a gram of 24 karat gold today, Saturday, scored about 2754 pounds, compared to 3086 late last month.
The price of the gold pound in Egypt recorded 19,280 pounds today, Saturday, compared to 21,600 pounds last month, and the global price of gold reached 2015 dollars per ounce.
Allowing gold to be brought from abroad without customs
And the Official Gazette published, in its issue issued on Thursday, May 11, 2023, the decision of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, to exempt gold imports in half-occupied forms that come to customs ports accompanied by passengers coming from outside the country, from customs tax and other fees except for value-added tax, for a period 6 months.
In its first article, the government decision stipulates that the following imports, which come to customs ports with passengers coming from outside the country, shall be exempted from customs tax and other fees, except for value-added tax, for a period of 6 months, namely:
– Gold in other semi-manufactured forms subject to customs clause No. 7108.13.
Gold intended for monetary circulation subject to Customs Clause No. 7108.20.
--Ornaments, jewelry and parts thereof made of other precious metals, whether or not they are covered or clad with a crust of precious metals subject to customs clause No. 7113.19.
The exemption does not include natural or cultivated pearls, precious or semi-precious stones mounted or inlaid on jewelry and their parts.
