Imprisonment of two Americans and the confiscation of their ship, estimated at $130,000
Two Americans have been sentenced to 10 days in prison for cheating at a local fishing competition, and their vessel, valued at $130,000, has been confiscated.
“I am convinced that these two fraudsters have cheated in several contests in recent years,” said Michael O’Malley, the attorney general who tried them in the state of Ohio (Northern United States).
“Unfortunately, they can only be held responsible for what they did on September 30, 2022,” he added.
That day, Jacob Runyan and Chase Kominsky took part in a bigeye fishing contest on Lake Erie, one of the Five Great Lakes in North America.
-The grand prize in the competition, valued at $28,760, was for the team that succeeds in catching five of the largest bigeye fish in the lake.
-When taking the weight of the fish caught by the duo Runyan and Kominsky, the competition manager had doubts after noticing that the size of the caught fish did not match the weight shown on the scale.
The two competitors were immediately disqualified and the police launched an investigation.
In addition to imprisonment and the confiscation of their vessel, Runyan and Kominsky were ordered to pay a fine of $2,500 and to have their fishing licenses revoked for three years, the maximum term stipulated by local laws.
