Google Wallet: Travelers will love this new feature that Google Wallet will offer

It will soon be possible to save your boarding pass directly to Google Wallet.

Google I/O 2023 was full of new stuff for Google products. Google Wallet, Mountain View’s mobile payment and card storage system, was not left out. The app will benefit from a new feature that will be of particular interest to users who travel frequently.

And so the company announced that when you book a flight, airlines will be able to offer you, a few hours before departure, to check-in directly from the messaging app, through a message. You will be able to save your boarding pass to Google Wallet, and present it at the gate before entering the plane. This action should simplify the process that Google has already helped facilitate.

Google simplifies the airline check-in process with Messages

In fact, right now you can actually scan your boarding pass and save it to Google Pay. Available if you have a Google Pixel, this feature allows you to save the ticket to your smartphone and view it even if you don’t have an internet connection.

The new feature takes advantage of the rich messaging protocol, RCS, which Google is actively campaigning for. RCS is the designated successor to SMS and was created to attract the growing number of internet users who are turning to messengers like WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram to communicate with their loved ones using not only text messages, but also videos and even emojis. The Google Wallet sign-up card is just a small part of the functionality that the company wants to offer through Wallet / Pay.

Ultimately, Mountain View wants its digital wallet to be the preferred storage location for our credit cards, auto insurance policies, loyalty cards, but above all, our identity papers.
