Is Bacher a coach for the Champions League?

Barak Becher has been officially appointed as the coach of Red Star Belgrade, as revealed in ONE. Bacher signed for three years and the Serbian ‘Sportska’ is sure: “He did not come for the league, because the team dominated the local arena for years, the clear goal is to take a step forward in Europe and especially in the Champions League.”

Well, the Serbian media wondered “Is Bacher a coach for the Champions League” and checked his numbers. Madina was reminded of Red Star’s last campaigns in the Champions League, and especially in 2018/19 it was at home with Napoli, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, and even managed to stun Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The Red Star then finished with four points, five goals and 17 must-goals. One season later the team was in the factory with Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Olympiakos and finished last again with three points, three goals and no less than 20 mandatory goals.

In Serbia they claimed: “Bachar did not disappoint this season in the Champions League with Maccabi Haifa, even though he finished last. He beat Juventus and lost the remaining five games, finishing with three points, seven goals scored and 21 goals scored. When you compare the numbers, you can see that the Red Star of that time and Maccabi Haifa are similar teams in terms of quality.”

They added in the media: “You can notice that Haifa did score more goals in the group stage, which may indicate that Bacher will try to compete with the giants of Europe, and we need to see if bringing him in will have the same effect as Miljovic’s team. According to these parameters, one cannot expect miracles in Europe from the beginning, at least not in the first season, because the Champions League is too strong an enterprise for the Red Star. To compete with the best, you have to invest and give time to the coach, but miracles are still possible.”
