The strong winds that accompanied the start of the European Windsurfing Championships calmed down and today the competitors went out on the water in very weak winds. Due to the conditions, there were four slalom races.
The change in conditions certainly gave its signals, when Shahar Tibi, who closed the top ten at the beginning of the competition, completes a comeback and rises to second place overall, when she wins two races, out of the four races of the day.
Sharon Kantor from Bazar is at the top of the championship and increases the gap to 17 points, after finishing the day’s sailing in places 27, 7, 7, 3. Tomorrow Kantor will leave for the last day of qualifying, with the aim of keeping her place at the top, before the medal races, which will be held on Sunday. The importance of keeping the first place for Kantor is great, since the surfer who finishes the qualifiers first receives the direct ticket to the final of the championship, and in fact guarantees herself a certain medal. Surfers in 2nd and 3rd place advance directly to the semi-finals and the next seven surfers in the ranking compete in the quarter-finals.
-Tamar Steinberg, who in the last two days was in second place, suffered from the wind conditions and deteriorated to ninth place, after finishing in places 21,21, 43,37. A place ahead of her, the fourth Israeli in the top ten, Kati Spichkov who rose from 13th place yesterday to eighth place today after an excellent sailing day, in which she won one sailing and finished the others in places 3, 47, 9.
-For the men, Tom Reuveni continues to climb slowly and approaches the top tens, which guarantee a place in the medal race. Today Reuveni finished in places 3, 3, 5, 23 and rose to 14th place. 27 points separate him from 10th place.
Four final qualifying races are expected to be held today, which will determine whether Kantor will secure a medal tomorrow and how many other Israeli competitors will compete in the quarter and semi-finals.
