Murder suspicion in Rishon Lezion: a woman in her 50s was stabbed to death, her ex-husband was arrested
As mentioned, the victim’s ex-husband, aged about 55, was arrested shortly after she was found shot dead in her home in Rishon Lezion, lying in a pool of blood and with stab wounds. The police are investigating how the divorced man entered the family home, one of the couple’s daughters said she does not know who let him in.
From an investigation conducted by the police, it appears that in 2021 a case was opened between the two regarding the suspicion of an incident that occurred in 2019, but in the absence of cooperation, it was shelved by the prosecution at the end of a legal examination.
-The man was previously arrested on suspicion of violence against the woman – and released. The couple divorced two years ago and were known to the welfare department in the municipality. The victim even met with a social worker in recent months and received assistance from her.
-An acquaintance of the murdered woman said to Walla! Because she knew that the divorcee was violent towards the woman. “We knew something was happening and that there was violence there,” she said. “He would come and scream and curse her with terrible curses. The writing was on the wall. The police came several times and released him. There was a day when she came to us with a cast in her hand. She would apologize for slipping in the shower, but with a face that clearly that’s not what happened.”
Neighbors said they heard screams. “She screamed, ‘Save him, he is murdering me,'” they said. “She opened the shutter and shouted, ‘Save me, he’s murdering me’. Then the shouting stopped. We heard a fight around 07:00 in the morning. She sounded distressed.”
One of the neighbors who worked with her at the pharmacy, Aharon Shahar, told Walla!: “I heard about the shouting from other neighbors – I didn’t make the connection that this was the background,” he said. “It’s the building across from ours. Vehicles came and we realized it wasn’t another medical case. The friends wrote her birthday greetings in the morning. It turned from joy to grief in an instant.”
Hadas Danieli Yelin, CEO of the Women’s Lobby, said in response: “We woke up this morning to more terrible news – a woman who was brutally murdered in Rishon Lezion. Unbelievable – 14 women have been murdered since the beginning of the year. twice as much as the same period last year. The violence in Israeli society enters homes and the government ignores it. More than two months ago, we were promised to pass the electronic surveillance law within a month. So far, we have only heard rumors about the problematic changes in the bill – and nothing has happened. This government is abandoning the women of Israel. Ben Gvir has failed, we appeal to the Prime Minister: Act immediately! Pass the electronic surveillance law, activate an emergency plan to save the next murdered woman.”
