Information obtained from more than one political party indicates that the issue of the displaced Syrians, which constitutes a demographic time bomb and a springboard for widening divisions in the country, has turned into a base of international and regional concern in the first place, and this is what Lebanese officials should know.

As diplomatic sources reveal to Al-Liwaa’s website that the former Russian ambassador to Lebanon, Olek Zapskin, who took over this file and was ruling at the time in coordination with the Syrian leadership in order to establish camps for the displaced after the Lebanese border, i. However, this project was not successful in light of the US-Russian dispute.

This issue still exists today, while during the visit of a Lebanese parliamentary delegation two weeks ago to Brussels, one of the representatives asked a European official and one concerned with the Syrian Refugee Commission: When will the displaced Syrians residing in Lebanon return to their homes? And you must help us in this matter. The European personal response was: “We help them with various financial, health and educational means, and they must remain in Lebanon until the opportunity comes for their return.” This means that the international community and the European Union are sticking to their stay in Lebanon so that they do not go to Europe, while the American-Russian dispute over the war in Ukraine extends to the Syrian issue, specifically with regard to refugees.

Therefore, what is happening in the country on this issue is nothing more than a settling of scores, populism, outbids, disagreements, and so on, because matters are deeper and much more important than that.
