He pointed out, in a statement, that “the decisions of the Minister of Agriculture and the Prime Minister to bring in 6,000 tons of potatoes from Egypt, outside the period permitted for importing from Egypt, hit Akkar’s potato production, and the price of a kilogram became sold for less than 0.20 dollars and cost more than 0.” ,35 dollars and exposed hundreds of farmers and thousands of workers in the agricultural sector to bankruptcy at a time when food security in Lebanon needs these farmers to feed the Lebanese people and secure the basic food basket.
Howayek pointed out, “The disasters that befell the spring and summer production of fruit trees, which hit production due to cold and snow, inflicting losses on farmers that they cannot afford.”
And he considered, what was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Higher Relief Commission regarding the disclosure of the damages to compensate for them, “a populist, absurd lie that we are accustomed to from irresponsible officials, and it confirms the amount of deception that surrounds the Lebanese in general and farmers in particular.”
-Howayek believed that “the authority in Lebanon is corrupt and prostitute, and its aim is to continue oppressing and impoverishing the people and destroying the productive sectors.”
He concluded by saying: “Building a state of truth, law, justice and prosperity requires the removal of Lebanon’s rule during the past years, otherwise the collapse will increase and disasters will continue.”
