Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, commented on the signing of representatives of the Rapid Support Forces and the army in Sudan on an agreement to solve the crisis that the country has been witnessing for about 3 weeks.
The Saudi minister said in a tweet on his official Twitter page: “The city of Jeddah brought together representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in an initiative to resolve the crisis. The talks that took place and the declaration of commitment to protecting civilians come as a first step, and other steps will follow, and the most important thing is to adhere to what was agreed upon.” And the Kingdom will work until security and stability return to Sudan and its brotherly people.
According to the text of the declaration, the two parties affirmed “the commitment to the sovereignty of Sudan and the preservation of its unity and territorial integrity, and the agreement that the interests and safety of the Sudanese people are a major priority, and the commitment to ensure the protection of Sudanese civilians at all times, and to allow safe passage for civilians in Sudan to leave the areas of hostilities, and to refrain from the recruitment and use of children in hostilities, and the evacuating of the wounded and sick without discrimination and allowing humanitarian organizations to do so.”
-And the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement: “The declaration of commitment will direct the activity of the two forces to enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, restore basic services, withdraw forces from hospitals and clinics, and allow the dead to be buried with respect, and after the signing, the Jeddah talks will focus on reaching an agreement on an effective ceasefire.” For up to approximately 10 days, in order to facilitate these activities, security measures will include a ceasefire monitoring mechanism supported by the United States of America, Saudi Arabia and the international community.
