The Egyptian Embassy in Harare organized a visit by the head of the Egyptian Medicines Authority, at the head of an Egyptian delegation to Zimbabwe, during the period from 10 to 12 May 2023, at the invitation of the Zimbabwean Medicines Authority.
Where Ambassador Salwa El Mowafi, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Zimbabwe, witnessed the ceremony of signing a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Egyptian Medicines Authority and its counterpart, the Zimbabwean Medicines Authority. Dr. Tamer Essam, Head of the Egyptian Medicines Authority, headed the Egyptian side, while Dr. Constantine Chiwenga, Vice President of the Republic and Zimbabwean Minister of Health, headed a group of officials from the Zimbabwean Ministries of Health and Finance.
The Egyptian ambassador to Harare said in media statements on this occasion that according to this memorandum, automatic registration will take place in Zimbabwe for any drug previously approved by the Egyptian Medicines Authority, which is an unprecedented matter that guarantees facilitating the process of registering the Egyptian drug, and facilitating the procedures for its entry into the Zimbabwean market, starting from the date of signing. .
And she continued: And then entering the market of southern African countries at a later stage, which would contribute to providing high-quality Egyptian medicine at an affordable price, and in a way that achieves a great export return for Egyptian companies working in the field of medicine and medical preparations.
For his part, the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe praised that defining step in the history of the two countries, which translated the depth of fraternal relations between Egypt and Zimbabwe on the ground in a way that benefits citizens, especially in rural areas in his country, stressing the capabilities of large Egyptian drug companies and their success in manufacturing a drug with High quality and affordable.
On the other hand, the head of the Egyptian Medicines Authority confirmed that this memorandum is only a step among many upcoming steps aimed at achieving the common interest of the two countries and their peoples.
--The Egyptian delegation met, as did the Egyptian delegation during this visit, with Dr. Matuli Ncube, Minister of Finance of Zimbabwe, as well as a number of officials of the Zimbabwean Drug Authority, and they toured during which they learned about the Zimbabwean capabilities in the field of drug control and control.
The Egyptian delegation praised the rate of growth witnessed by the pharmaceutical sector in Zimbabwe, and the latter’s aspiration to attain the third level of maturity from the World Health Organization.
