The mayor of Deir al-Ahmar, Latif al-Qazha, called on “An-Nahar” not to exploit the attack on the town’s landfills yesterday by unknown persons for “political and personal ends,” pending the results of the security forces’ investigations.

Al-Qazah explained that the incident “came more media hype than it deserves, and it did not exceed a small attack by destroying tombstones and religious symbols that affected a number of burials, to catch some in murky waters and accuse people from outside the town, to ruin the relationship of Deir al-Ahmar and its villages with everyone in the region, and this It is strange from what distinguished Deir al-Ahmar, and it will remain a symbol of love and coexistence among all.”

For his part, the governor of Baalbek Hermel, Bashir Khader, tweeted: “After the attack on the cemeteries, I call on our people in Deir al-Ahmar to exercise the strictest levels of restraint, and await the results of the investigation. I am following up the matter with the security services and I am confident that they will arrest the perpetrators.”

The mayor had contacted the security services and worked to follow up the investigation, search for the real culprits and punish them, and demanded that the investigation be left to take its course and reveal the circumstances of the accident.
