Ariel University canceled the planned appearance of Eyal Golan on Student’s Day in the campus complex, following the storm that erupted online and the opposition of many students and lecturers.
Because of this, the student union at the university started a fight against the university’s decision and posted today (Friday) on the Facebook page: “We in the union wanted to hold Student’s Day in the planned format and we wanted to hold it here in Ariel, on our campus. As we know, the area belongs to the university. The university decided not to allow us To hold the event in a format that includes the appearance of Eyal Golan. We changed worlds and were able to create the possibility of holding the event at Live Park in Rishon Lezion, at identical costs and a corresponding transportation arrangement.”
The association decided to conduct a survey to check whether the students prefer to hold the event on the university grounds but without Golan’s appearance, or to hold the student day in Live Park, outside the campus walls, where Golan can perform. “Student’s Day is the day of the students and therefore here too, only we, the students at Ariel University, will decide how it will be held. As with the selection of the artists, we will also now conduct a survey to see in what format you would like to hold our event. The options are: 1 – holding the event on the university grounds After the cancellation of Eyal Golan’s performance, 2 – holding the Student Day performances as planned, including Eyal Golan’s performance at Live Park.”
From the association’s Facebook page:
The women’s lobby stated: “An important and moral decision by Ariel University not to allow the performance of Eyal Golan on the university’s premises. We will continue to stand by the complainants and work to eradicate inappropriate behavior towards the women in Israel. We congratulate the university for responding to our call and the call of many in this struggle to ban the performance on its premises It is not appropriate that a person, against whom there are serious allegations of sexual behavior offensive to minors and contempt for women, should appear at an event of a recognized academic institution in Israel. Thank you to all the brave women who took part in this struggle. Together we are a force.”-
These days, Golan is in the investigation that is being conducted against him as part of the “Board Games” case, which was opened again according to the order of the prosecutor’s office nine years after it was closed. This, following new complaints expected by the complainants T. and N. who claimed that the singer persuaded them to have sex with his friends. In April he was interrogated for this and six months ago he confronted the police with the women.-
The association announced at the beginning of the month that Golan He will be invited to perform on campus as part of the “Student Day” events that will be held at the end of the month as every year. In a short time, the post in question on Facebook and Instagram received many negative reactions calling for the cancellation of the singer’s appearance, along with words of support for him. The association, for its part, disabled the possibility of commenting on the post on Instagram that caused an uproar.
“He has the most catchy songs in the whole city and he came to throw our Student’s Day in the air”, this is how the association presented the singer’s participation in the Student’s Day, “Welcome the one and only Eyal Golan”. Among the responses, students wrote: “And then you post a phone number for sexual harassment in the girls’ bathroom”, “You take the money that the students use to pay the university and transfer it to the pocket of a despicable person. What’s next? This is how it is when there is no feminist cell in the university”, “What to do, a beautiful voice is important More than morals, ethics and whole lives of girls that were destroyed?”, “You took away the desire to come” and more.
Liam Productions, Eyal Golan’s production company, responded: “We would like to thank the students at Ariel University who chose Eyal to perform for them and we will be happy to hold the performance for them wherever they choose. If the report is true, it is unfortunate that officials at the university decided to take the law into their own hands and put themselves as investigators, judges and enforcers and prevent the performance on the university grounds, while the majority of the students They requested the appearance of Eyal Golan on their holiday.”
“It is expected of an academic institution not to take a rash step but to act in accordance with the standards appropriate for a country where the law states that each person is innocent until proven otherwise, in particular Eyal Golan proved his innocence when the case against him was closed already in 2013 and the procedures taken by the prosecutors were an attempt Financial extortion to which Eyal refused to surrender, with the understanding that his actions were flawless. Music connects the parts of the people and so we will continue with full faith that the truth will come to light and put an end to the relentless persecution of no injustice. Shabbat Shalom to all.”
