In recent times, we are exposed more and more to the methods of operation of the operational communities, the intelligence, the Shin Bet and the Mossad, methods of operation for which silence is beautiful are displayed with pride and show on television and in the weekend newspapers, and serve as a warning light to our enemies.

Israel has always taken care to maintain ambiguity and secrecy in regards to the operations carried out, but now there is the impression that this ambiguity has faded. Information unfolded before the eyes of viewers and readers – starting with the methods of the undercover agents who entered the Kasbah of Nablus to catch the murderers of the three women at the Dee family home, including photographs, electronic aids and strategies from the moment they got off the car until the end of the operation, and ending with an article published last weekend about the Gideons detailing Execution techniques and fighting methods.
If “tricks will make you a war” – why reveal some of the tricks? There are strategic and tactical assets that secrecy would have benefited. In my opinion, such exposure of work methods is more harmful than it is a deterrent.
--Operational secrecy defines the communities of the security and intelligence forces, and exposing methods to the whole world, including our enemies, will cause them to take operational methods into account and prepare against them. Secrecy serves the element of surprise and prevents honesty from the other side. It is true that the exposure strengthens our image and probably also increases the concerns of those who do bad things about us, but the price is high.
I wish you would disappear – but it seems to me that there is a connection between revealing secrets in press conferences or to foreign sources and political needs of one kind or another, especially before elections. I’m sure there is censorship that approves or disapproves the disclosure of information, but again and again I ask – is it really necessary? Why reveal our cards before the end of the game? Or to use more blunt language – why pee from the bouncer?
