The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced the appointment of the young actress, Aseel Omran, as its first Saudi ambassador, after she had been working continuously with her since 2018, and before that she was also appointed as a high-level supporter of the UNHCR in 2020.
And the UNHCR wrote in a tweet on its Twitter account: “We are pleased that Aseel is the first Saudi goodwill ambassador for UNHCR. Her commitment and dedication to highlighting the work of the UNHCR deserves all praise and appreciation, and we are confident that her joining us will make a great impact on Raising awareness about the plight of forcibly displaced people around the world.
And she added in another tweet: “We are proud and welcome the Saudi artist Aseel as a goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR. We are confident that she will continue to activate her social platforms to raise awareness about the plight and needs of the forcibly displaced and promote the importance of solidarity and empathy in facing the global displacement crisis.”
Aseel Omran republished the two tweets, and documented a video clip on her Instagram account, and said: “More than five years ago, I had the honor of meeting many refugees from all over the world, and I saw for myself how refugees, if they were given the right opportunities, could thrive on Totally”.
She added: “When I started working with UNHCR, there were 70 million people forcibly displaced around the world. Today that number is over 103 million.
