The artist, Samah Anwar, sent a strongly worded message to a group of Egyptians, describing them as ignorant because of their hatred of art and artists, after the refusal of the owners of the property in which her parents, the writer and screenwriter Anwar Abdullah, and her mother, the artist Souad Hussein and the star Shadia, lived.
Samah Anwar said in a live broadcast via her Facebook account: “There is a group of people who hate artists, insult them, and look at them in a vile way, and this does not concern them with the artist because he creates in order to simplify and simplify the people who love him, and whoever is not happy with art and artists gets excited, we as artists do not do art for you.” We do it for our own sake and for the sake of our talent, which is from the Spirit of God Himself, but ignorant people.”
During the video, Samah Anwar demanded the need for legal action against the owner of this property to place her parents’ banner in honor of them and their artistic career, as part of the “He Lived Here” initiative, which is placed at the homes of the late artists, in honor of their memory, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and the artists’ children.
And she said: I am not making the video so that they agree.
--And she sent a message to the real estate owners who refused to put up the signs, saying: “What are you? What do you want? We want Egypt to be extinguished, we want Egypt to no longer have art, will you keep squandering and slaughtering artists, people of Egypt a lot? You throw your value and trample on it, and do you think it will be valuable to you? Egyptian art has value in my hands, and the Egyptian artist has great value. Whoever does not know this is a problem for him. No one remembers who insulted any artist. As for the living or deceased artist, he lived with his art and the love of people for him.
And she added: I am very suffocated by the people in Egypt whose soul has been wronged.
