Said Abdo, Chairman of the Egyptian Publishers Association and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al Maarif, announced the provision of 50 outlets for sale for publishers who are members of the Egyptian Union only, provided that they are available in Giza Governorate for those who want to subscribe and book in those sites and exploit them at a monthly rental value of 3 thousand pounds.

Abdo explained in statements to “Al-Dustour” that the outlets can be used as units to publish books, libraries and offices for publishers within the framework of his “Library Street” project.

He said that the outlets for selling the libraries of the Academy of Arts wall come within the framework of his project “Libraries Street”, which he previously submitted to the Minister of Culture, Dr. Al-Haj Ali, head of the General Egyptian for the previous book, and then the project was stopped due to the Corona pandemic until it was activated again, provided that 50 outlets for publishers from among the members will be offered in a public tender in the union until next Sunday.

174 publishers requested outlets, and only 4 applicants

Abdo pointed out that despite the meeting of the Egyptian Publishers Union with publishers and 174 requests to provide outlets for sale, only 4 publishers have applied so far, pointing out that it is a great opportunity for publishers to apply to the tender to purchase the bidding requirements.

He pointed out that the sales outlets are largely concentrated in Giza Governorate, and they are finished, and an agreement is under way with the Governor of Alexandria to provide outlets for publishers who are members of the union during the coming period.

The decision of the Minister of Culture to reconcile the status of publishers

Yesterday, the Egyptian Al-Waqae’ newspaper published the decision of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani No. 173 of 2023, to grant a transitional period of 6 months to Egyptian publishers of intellectual works subject to the Intellectual Property Protection Law, who obtained deposit numbers for these works and failed to deposit their copies with the National Books and Documents House within a period The three months stipulated in the previous decision, provided that during that period they deposit copies of those works.

The decision also stipulates that the General Authority for National Books and Documents shall issue to the Egyptian publishers referred to in Article 1 of this decision, deposit numbers for them, taking into account the procedures stipulated in Ministerial Resolution No. 363 of the year 2017, amended by Ministerial Resolution No. 172 of 2018, as of the date of implementation of this decision. .

The decision was based on the Intellectual Property Protection Law promulgated by Law No. 82 of 2002, and the executive regulations of Book Three of the Intellectual Property Protection Law promulgated by Prime Minister’s Decree No. 497 of 2005.

It also relied on Minister of Culture Decision No. 173 of 2023 regarding the formation of a committee headed by Professor Dr. Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture to discuss obstacles and problems facing extracting book deposit numbers for Egyptian publishers and its amendments contained in Resolution No. 181 of 2023.

It was also based on the memorandum of Professor Dr. Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Culture, which was attached to his Excellency’s letter No. (1240) dated 12/4/2023; And based on considerations of the common good.
