In May 2009, the Tunisian poet and researcher Taher Hammami (1947-2009) passed away in a hospital in the Spanish capital, Madrid, leaving behind a large number of books. The first was a collection of poetry published in 1972, titled “The Siege,” and the last of these was a book titled “Baal and a Mule” published in 2009. In between, there is a long series of books distributed between poetry, critical studies, and political and trade union writings, of which it is believed that what is known represents only a part. Which he wrote, as he published some of his books under pseudonyms, while others remained unpublished.

in his hometown; The city of Ben Arous, south of Tunis, was established, four years after his death, as a literary and intellectual forum that bears his name.

The new session of the “Taher Hammami Forum for Literary and Intellectual Creativity”, which is organized by the “Maghrebi Library” at its headquarters in partnership with the “Association of Library and Book Lovers” in Ben Arous, is held under the title “Literature and Arts Synergy”. Its work is divided into four scientific sessions; The first of which was held yesterday, and it included four papers: “A group under the fence and the interaction of arts” by Farouk Al-Amrani, “Playwriting today between the temptations of the fleeting and the aspiration to perpetuity” by Muhammad Al-Medioni, and “Dialogue of Poetry and the Arts Through Poetic Examples by Moncef Al-Wahaibi and Muhammad Al-Khalidi” by Fathi Al-Nasri. And “Al-Jahiz and Khattab Al-Faraj” by Saleh Bin Ramadan.

In the second session, this morning, Belkacem Jaber will speak on “The Crescent Biography: From the Problem of Genres to the Expansion of the Arts”, and Mohamed Abdel-Azim on “The Decimal Image, the Way to Transform the Profane into the Sacred”, “The Tavern Dancer” as a model, and Ahlam Al-Akhdar on “The Short Story Jada: The Complex of All Arts.” While the third session will be held in the evening, in which Hussein Al-Awry will present an intervention entitled “The Poetic Image and the Game of Cinematic Zoom.”

As for the fourth session, on the third and final day, tomorrow, Saturday, it includes three interventions; They are: “Literary Fine Arts Poem Through Examples of Contemporary Poetry” by Fathi Awlad Bouhda, “Cinema and Arts Dialogue” by Hiyam Al-Farchichi, and “Graffiti” by Sania Mudawi: Contrasting Words and Time by Fathi Fares.

On the sidelines of the sessions, various activities are held. Among them is an exhibition by the calligrapher Tawfiq Al-Issawi, and another documenting the previous session in 2022, as well as poetry readings, musical performances by Abbas Moghaddam, and a screening of Ali Al-Obeidi’s movie “Al-Radef 54” (1997) on the story “One Day of Zumra” by Muhammad Saleh Al-Jabri, and excerpts. From the play “Gama’a Under the Wall”, directed by Bashir Drissi and Hammadi Arrafa, based on a script by Samir Ayadi.
