Years of Running in Place – Noura Nagy
Dar Al Shorouk – 2022

Read to me platform

In her new novel, Nora Nagy presents an exceptional biography of the senses, from vision to touch and from tasting to smell to hearing, in honor of a revolution that aspired to go far beyond the sky, but it settled with two legs planted underground, running in place.

Between a revolution and an epidemic, five artists try to move forward, but they discover that their lives have stopped after losing one of them in the field. They lose their senses, so they try to regain them by sticking to art, love, and the small details that make up life. The characters he created, “The Reality of January,” clung to the dream of turning the predicament of existence into art, and the turn of the revolution into a song.

For this purpose, Nora Nagy created a “text novel”, so she presented the painting and the play, Life Diaries and Dream Hallucinations, as well as the novel within the novel with a narrative text that goes beyond traditional narration techniques to the spaciousness of experimentation.

Emergency Exit – Hala Salah El Sayad
Dar Safsafa – 2022

Read to me platform

The novel began with the main event; It is the disappearance of the mother «Altaf». Let’s start the search for her, with many questions about where she disappeared, and why did she disappear? Events overlap and accelerate, intersecting and intertwining family threads, even if they are flimsy threads. Let us realize that “Altaf” is the common denominator between all their actions, as it is their point of departure, and her disappearance is the point of their return and their reunification with “Altaf” who is absent / present, and her children and husband who are absent despite their presence.

And we find ourselves facing a strange question, and the writer was able to brilliantly deal with it tightly. How can absence have such a powerful presence? Is attendance only physical presence! Or does absence make presence evident, but we realize that too late?! Events whose episodes govern all the protagonists of the novel, without exception, to leave each of them alone, desperately trying to search for an “emergency exit”, without real hope of finding it.

A road wide for a lonely person – Osama Allam
Dar Al Shorouk – 2022

Read to me platform

“Osama Allam’s talent is manifested in interrogating everyone he meets, turning them all into small stories, in which the writer’s talent and ability to mix reality with imagination is evident, in which he draws high-quality artistic images that rise to the quality of poetry, transforming the people he meets into part of the city’s legend and placing halos on their heads. From the imagination, and we have to believe all the symbols he presents, we have to believe that there are tiny creatures that can hardly be seen living with us in the same house, and that elephants respond to singing and embracing.

And that an old writer fulfills his wish and turns into a seagull, and we hear with him the choir of the Sisters of Notre Dame singing in angelic voices, and like him we befriend the library mouse, and endless whiffs of magic emanate from every tale, funny and captivating and expressing the misery of loneliness. We are in front of a writer who possesses the delicacy of poets and the insight of philosophers, who takes us on his exotic journey through cities, and makes us hope that he will not stop his travels, and that he will continue his sweet singing.
